How to care for your Lack of Color fedora:

  • Spot clean with damp cloth
  • Brush lightly with lint brush
  • For a softer fedora, steam for 30 - 60 seconds

Please avoid prolonged periods of sun exposure to your hat to avoid colour fade to wool.


How do I place an order?

To place an order, head to our ‘SHOP’ tab on the left hand side of your browser. Then click the item you wish to purchase. This will open a new window and you will able to select your size (please refer to ‘SIZING’ tab to ensure you order the correct size). Click the ‘Add to Cart’ option. On the top right hand side of your webpage a small box should pop up, displaying your carts contents. You can then click ‘Proceed to Checkout’ (if you have finished your order). From there, the webstore will ask for all relevant details which will need to be filled out in order to make an account and check out.

How do I make payment?

Lack of Color accepts payment via Credit Card, Direct Bank Transfer, PayPal & Afterpay.

All orders placed on our international website will be charged in USD and dispatched from our AU warehouse location. 

Please note if making payment via direct bank transfer, this make take 2-3 business days to clear into our account. Items will not be shipped until we receive full payment into our account. If you wish to receive your item faster, it is best to email us a screenshot of payment to so that our team can start your order and dispatch it as quickly as possible.

How do I make an account?

To make account, click the 'login' button on the top right corner of the page. You will then see a button 'create account'. Click this button and follow the prompts to create your account. Alternatively, you can add items to your cart and make an account when checking out. You must create an account to place an order. By making an account you can access previous orders at any time. You can also access your tracking number once your order has been shipped so that you can track its journey.

How do I make sure I order the right size hat for me?

Please make sure you order the right sized fedora for YOU. Lack of Color strongly recommends that each customer measures their head before purchasing to ensure they are purchasing the correct sized hat. Just like shoe and clothing sizes, everyone has a unique size and shaped head and we offer a range of sizes to accommodate this. To correctly measure your head, click our ‘SIZING’ tab on the left side of our home page where there are additional instructions.

My hat doesn’t quite fit the way I’d like it to, what do I do?

If you receive your new Lack of Color hat and it doesn’t quite fit the way you would like it to, please do not hesitate to email our customer care team at A suggestion for customers whose hats are a little too big is to order a hat filler directly from our site on the ‘SHOP’ page. Our hat fillers reduce the size of your hat by 1-2.5 cms and are perfect when you need a firmer fitting hat. All return postage costs are to be covered by the customer. 


How long does shipping take?

For international orders we use the International EMS service that is offered with Australia Post.

Lack of Color only offers the Express EMS service through AusPost. This is for reliability. 

Lack of Color offers an Express 3-6 Business Day service to all international countries. This option for international orders to most countries usually takes around 3-14 business days from dispatch date, depending on your location. Please note, this timing is an estimate only. Due to customs and other factors outside of our control, orders may take longer to arrive. Lack of Color will not be held responsible for any delays that may occur. 

Lack of Color also offers an DHL Express (1-3 Days) option for small boxes sent to North America.

Prices for the international shipping options, for each Country can be calculated at check-out before payment is made to give you an indication of the cost. To do this, proceed to checkout and enter your address details. Your shipping cost will then be calculated. 

Unfortunately, Lack of Color cannot be held responsible for any possible duties and taxes that may be applied by customs in the country where the delivery is made. The responsibility for any customs duties, foreign taxes or other fees, which may be imposed, will rest with the customer.


Does Lack of Color deliver to PO BOX addresses Internationally?

Yes, we can deliver to PO BOX addresses internationally (countries outside Australia).

What should I do if there is something wrong with my order?

If you have received the wrong item, or if something is missing from your order, we are sorry! Please email us straight away at and someone from our customer care team will help resolve the problem for you as quickly as possible.

How do I make my hat stiffer?

If you have purchased a style hat and wish to make it stiffer, it is suggested that you use steam. The steam used can be from a garment steamer (preferable) or an iron (using the steaming function). To make your hat re-gain its stiffness, simply steam the under-brim of your hat and let it lay on a flat surface overnight or until dry. You can then also steam the top side of the brim and let is sit flat for a further period of time.

The felt that the hat is made from has been treated with a stiffening agent and once this agent is reactivated by the steaming process, the hat will often regain its original state and shape.

How do I make my hat floppier?

If you have purchased a style of hat and wish to make it floppier it is suggested that you use steam. The steam used can be from a garment steamer (preferable) or an iron (using the steaming function). To make your hat floppier, you will need to steam the brim of your hat on both sides. You will then need to work the hat with your hands and mould it into your desired shape. Once the hat has been steamed it is suggested you hang it by only the crown (the brim should not be in contact with any surface). This will allow your hat to dry from the steam into the desired shape. The hat may need to be re-worked a couple of times once dry from steaming each time to achieve your preferred shape.

The felt that the hat is made from has been treated with a stiffening agent to help it hold its form. Once this agent is reactivated by the steaming process, the hat can be encouraged to form a new shape. To restore it to its original shape, refer to the FAQ “How do I make my hat stiffer?”

Does Lack of Color re-stock items if they are currently out of stock?

All Lack of Color hats are limited edition, as we believe our hats are as unique as our customers and we wouldn’t want to saturate the market and take away from the distinctive feel your Lack of Color hat possesses. We do re-stock some styles and try to do so within 2-6 weeks of becoming unavailable. To be notified when an item is back in stock, please go to the item, select the size and click 'Notify Me When Available' and follow the prompts. If the item is re-stocked, you will automatically be emailed as soon as it is back in stock.

If you have any questions about the re-stocking of items that appear to be out of stock on the webstore, please send us an email at and we can let you know whether or not the item is discontinued or if it will be re-stocked in multiple sizes as well as an approximate time frame of the re-stocking date.
