Weekends with Saasha Burns

Tell us a little about yourself

My name is Saasha Burns, I grew up in Melbourne and my husband Sammy and I moved to Byron Bay last summer. It’s absolute paradise and already feels like home. We’ve been renovating our new home in-between our travels and running two businesses. I’m the co-founder of BEAR, a modern Australian lifestyle brand, and Creative Director for BEAR Originals, a multi-disciplinary creative studio that specialises in brand strategy and content solutions for international and emerging brands.

Where can we find you most weekends?

When we aren’t travelling, Sammy and I love waking up at sunrise, making a coffee and taking our husky, Minnie, to the beach. We plan for the day ahead, discuss ideas for BEAR, and our upcoming travel plans. We’ll then head to our local farmers market for flowers, fresh fruit and veggies late morning. Afternoons, we will usually be working from home, before cooking a healthy meal and enjoying a vino, or catching up with friends.

Describe your ideal long weekend getaway..

I’m dreaming of being back in beautiful Positano, where we were married. Anywhere that involves a road-trip, the beach, sun, and nature.

What do you love most about where you live?

The sense of freedom and positive energy.

What are some of your favourite local spots?

Wategos or Tallows beach early in the morning, Woods for coffee, Braer for flowers, Newrybar Merchants for homewares, Nikau for beautiful plants and ceramics, and The Farm for lunch in the sunshine.

What are your beach essentials?

A woven beach bag, Turkish towel, SPF, a wide brimmed hat and a good book.

Favourite outfit?

A printed RIXO floral dress for summer.

And the LOC hat you would style it with..

The Sunnydip Fray Boater.

When do you feel most present / most like yourself?

Always in nature, in the countryside or by the ocean.

Favourite book to curl up with?

I just finished reading The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho. It’s such a powerful novel, that reminds us to embrace life’s journey. I encourage everyone to read it.

What are you listening to lately?

Brooklyn in the Summer, by Aloe Blacc is on repeat.
